Dog leashes and Leads

Dog leashes and leads allow you to walk your dog without worrying about them running away. Using a leash or lead to walk your dog is the law, and in some areas you will get a ticket or fine if you walk your dog without one. There are many different selections in pet stores and even online. No matter what kind of dog you have, you can find the perfect leash for him or her. If you enjoy giving your dog treats you should know that a daily walk is the best treat of all. Dogs love going for walks. Not only that, but it keeps them healthy. Walking is also good for dog owners!

The type of leash you'll need depends on what stage of training your dog is in. If you've got a puppy you may want a training harness. Maybe you've adopted an older dog from a shelter. You can teach an old dog new treats, but you need a harness and leash system that gives you firm control. If your dog is already trained a basic leash in any length you prefer will work fine. The retractable leash is a great choice for every dog because you can adjust it depending on your needs. You will need a collar to go along with your leash. There are many different collars available these days.

Some collars are basic in design, made from solid fabric or leather. Most of them buckle with a hole system like a belt, making it easy to adjust the size of the collar. There are collars for different groups of dog such as small, medium, large and extra large. Within these categories there will be a weight range to look for. One of the biggest trends these days with dog collars is the bejeweled collar. Indulgent dog owners are buying Swavorski studded collars for their pampered pooches. You can even have your dog's name spelled out in crystals. Even if you don't want to go that far you can find cute designer collars in every color. Some collars can be embroidered with your dog's name.

Using dog leashes and leads to walk your dog is something that may take some getting used to. If you've got a puppy or a new older dog it may take some time for them to adjust to their surroundings and actually care about walking on the leash. The first time a collar and leash is put on some dogs will jerk away because they are not used to it. With patience and consistency you can teach your dog to walk properly on a leash. This will allow you to treat your dog with regular walks, which they will really enjoy!
