Peanut Butter Dog Treats
If you are looking for a delicious and natural treat for your dog you should consider making peanut butter dog treats. Peanut butter is safe for dogs and they love the taste. You can make these delightful treats at home rather than buying them from the pet store or dog bakery. All you need is a few basic ingredients that can be purchased from any supermarket. First on the list is of course peanut butter. When buying peanut butter for dog treats, or for yourself for that matter, it is a good idea to go with the all natural organic varieties. They may cost a bit more but they are the healthiest choice.
It doesn't matter whether you choose chunky or smooth because your dog will love either variety. In addition to peanut butter there are a few other ingredients required. Here is a basic recipe you can use to make these treats. This recipe can be tinkered with and added to if you feel it is too basic for your dog. Here is what you will need:
3 cups whole wheat flour
3/4 cup peanut butter
1 cup water
2 1/2 tablespoons canola oil
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix together the peanut butter, water and oil in a medium to large bowl. Slowly sift in flour, mixing continuously until a dough is formed. The dough should be kneaded for several minutes then cooled in the refrigerator for thirty minutes to an hour. After refrigeration roll the dough to 1/4 inch thick on a floured surface. Now you can cut the dog biscuits into squares or use cookie cutters. The treats should be baked for 20 minutes on a cookie sheet and cooled thoroughly before serving. When cool you can store your treats in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
There are plenty of other peanut butter dog treats recipes online
and in dog food cookbooks. The beauty of these treats lies in their simplicity and wholesome ingredients. Although you may find them a little bland, you can eat these treats yourself. This is something many dog owners appreciate, feeding their dogs food that is fit for human consumption. After all, many people consider their dogs members of the family and treat them accordingly. Homemade treats are a healthy yet indulgent way to express love for your dog.
